Blog: Livestock, where farming collides with climate concerns

In an important week for climate policy, livestock producers took to Brussels to protest being ‘demonised’ in the emissions debate.

In Brussels, there’s a common complaint that agricultural debates and events don’t include the voices of actual farmers. A show of hands at a recent soil conference of 200 people revealed no farmers at all.

Last week was different. On Schuman roundabout, a coalition of European livestock farmers climbed hay bales to wave the rather lengthy statement: “We won’t tell you what to eat, drink or wear, but it’s good to hear the two sides of the story about livestock. Because when you make a choice, you also choose all of the consequences.”
