Blog: Serious work to begin after brief moment of calm

In Brussels, this week has been a moment of calm before the serious work begins. Next week is set to see the publication of concrete plans for a just transition mechanism, while MEPs will turn their attention to the dark arts of comitology.

If 2019 ended with a crescendo of activity in Brussels policy circles, culminating in the publication of the European Green Deal and environment ministers discussing this year’s big topic, biodiversity, at the final EU Council summit under the Finnish presidency, this week has been a moment of calm before the serious work of delivering the promised action plans, strategies and legislation begins. It should kick off next week with the publication on Tuesday of the first concrete proposal – for a Just Transition Mechanism.
