EU Parliament weighs in on the European Green Deal

MEPs voted to back the flagship European Green Deal policy package in a plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Wednesday, cementing support to enshrine 2050 climate neutrality as law. Lawmakers supported the plan by 482 in favour with 136 against.

The resolution called for an increase of the EU’s domestic emissions reduction target to 55%, from the initial figure of ‘at least 50 to 55%’ proposed by the commission’s green deal communication in December. Currently, the EU is committed to 40% by 2030.
