Industry to be at centre of circular economy strategy, says top EC official

Textiles, construction, electronics and mobility are the key sectors addressed in the circular economy action plan that the European Commission is expected to publish on 4 March alongside the EU industrial strategy, a senior official has said.

“If I say the circular economy action plan is the industrial strategy, don't say that to the Vestager cabinet [responsible for competitiveness and the digital agenda],” said Diederik Samsom, head of cabinet for commission vice-president Frans Timmermans, at an event in Brussels on Wednesday. 

“They will say exactly the opposite, which is actually fine, because then it's merged, and that is what should happen,” he said.
