Blue manifesto demands green deal action on oceans

More than 100 environmental groups have called on the European Commission to adopt a ‘blue manifesto’ for healthy oceans alongside its flagship green deal policy package.

Groups including Seas At Risk, BirdLife Europe, ClientEarth, and WWF published on Tuesday their 10-year “rescue plan” for European marine and coastal ecosystems which sets out a series of concrete actions for EU policymakers. The campaigners said the European Commission should ensure the ocean is an integral part of its climate and biodiversity strategies

“Urgent action must be taken to ensure the resilience of our ocean in the face of the climate emergency,” said WWF Europe’s head of marine policy Samantha Burgess.
