Sabine Jülicher, from the commission’s health directorate-general (DG SANTE), said she supported the view that developing low-risk pesticides should be encouraged so that they reach 100% of the market.
“That would be helpful,” she told MEPs. “We are starting work to review the data requirements to make this application process for the industry tailor-made to the product they are developing.”
A recent report by the European Court of Auditors warned that the commission’s efforts to monitor and reduce the risks resulting from pesticide use are too vague, and that several member states were late in transposing legislation.
