CAP reform fails to address biodiversity threat, scientists warn

Some 3,600 scientists have put their names to a 10-point action plan to overhaul Europe’s farming sector, as they identify the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) as a key driver of environmental degradation.

The plan is part of a paper published on Monday by the British Ecological Society, which echoes concerns, already expressed by the European Court of Auditors and others, over attempts to effect change through a system of direct 'greening' payments to farmers.
