Covid-19: Calls for EU to ensure economic response is Paris-compliant

Campaigners have appealed to EU institutions to maintain ‘green’ standards in the face of the Covid-19 crisis, after a series of economic stimulus packages were announced.

The European Commission should invest in people and avoid bailing out polluting industries, Greenpeace said after appeals by the airline sector for support after the shutdown of international travel.

All spending in response to the pandemic must be in line with the Paris agreement, Greenpeace added, including energy subsidies, EU’s farming and cohesion policies funding.
