Auditors highlight EU failure to tackle forest decline, illegal logging

EU funding has helped increase Europe’s tree cover, but forestry policy has largely failed to protect biodiversity or increase the carbon sink, while illegal logging is carried out largely unchecked, the European Court of Auditors (ECA) has found.
