Interview: Eurelectric head on why permitting delays could derail the energy transition

Speaking to ENDS Europe, Eurelectric secretary-general Kristian Ruby argues that the massive roll-out of wind and solar implied by EU climate targets will require an accommodation between EU energy policy and nature protection rules. The one-time advisor to former EU climate commissioner Connie Hedegaard, Ruby also says that Spain’s “illegal” response to rising energy prices is a knee-jerk reaction that could slow the roll-out of renewables, and that a stable policy environment is needed to provide the investment signals needed in sectors such as electricity storage.
