Brussels unveils plan to allow national GM bans

The European Commission issued on Tuesday a legislative proposal allowing member states to restrict or ban the cultivation of genetically modified (GM) crops. Unlike existing law, EU states would not need to invoke a safeguard clause to impose bans.
