Larger EU urban greening fund finalised
A euros 14m per year programme for helping European local governments become more sustainable was formally passed by the EU Council of Ministers this week and can now enter into force. The EU decision provides a legal basis for Commission funding for sustainable urban development after the European Court of Justice ruled its existing approach to be illegal. It also increases funds by euros 2m per year (EED 19/12/00).
