Dutch struggle to increase waste separation

The Netherlands' statistical service has published household waste collection data for 2000. The amount of waste collected separately remained at 46% of total household arisings, confirming a recent dramatic slow-down in its growth. Until 1998, the average annual increase in separate collection was close to 13%. There is good news about collection of end-of-life household appliances, however. A 27% increase was recorded in 2000 due to introduction of collection services operated by municipalities. See English-language press release.
