"Toxic gravel" action pledged by Danish firms
Denmark's asphalt industry has announced an action plan to assess and monitor toxic substances, particularly polyaromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and tar compounds, in re-used and recycled materials utilised in road building, primarily as gravel. The industry says it will consider setting maximum PAH limits and will consult with the environmental protection agency (EPA) on the future use of such materials. The announcement follows a series of media reports alleging widespread and unwitting use of "toxic gravel". See Asfaltindustrien, tel: +45 36 78 08 22.
