Danish review "bent the facts" on particles

Danish environmental group the Ecological Council has accused a government working group of "bending the facts" in a recent report on particulate pollution from diesel-engined heavy vehicles (EED 23/07/01). The working group's main estimate of 22 extra deaths per year was too optimistic, according to the Ecological Council. It suggests that a series of arguments raised against a strong particle filter programme can all be overcome. The NGO has written to four ministries and parliamentarians to press its case for a combined package of tax incentives and financial support for particle filters. See statement.
