TPT fungicide licence revoked

German's federal biological research centre for agriculture (BBA), which is responsible for licensing plant protection products, has banned the use of the triphenyl tin (TPT) containing fungicide Brestan. In a statement the BBA said that sale and use of the chemical was banned with immediate effect. A spokesperson told ENDS Europe DAILY that the BBA had acted "rather quickly" after the product's manufacturer, Aventis, had presented information a fortnight ago confirming earlier findings that the chemical appeared to affect the sex hormone system of molluscs, inducing male characteristics.
