Animal feed makers ask for GM threshold
France's animal feed association (SNIA) has called on EU and French authorities to establish a threshold for GM contamination of animal feed plus rules on labelling and traceability. The association says it is developing best practice guidelines but cannot complete them until authorities fulfil their responsibilities. It is calling for a 2.5% threshold, much higher than that being proposed by the EU for human foods. SNIA also says that fully-traced non-GM soya will initially cost its customers an extra 10%.
