Prospects fair for German wind power

German wind power will grow by half over the next two years, nearly overtaking hydroelectricity in terms of its contribution to national electricity output, according to independent institute IWR. Wind currently generates 13bn kilowatt hours (kWh), which should increase to 20bn kWh by 2003, says IWR. This compares with 21bn kWh produced from hydroelectricity, which is no longer growing. Largely driven by expansion in wind power, Germany's overall share of renewable electricity will grow from 8% this year to 10% in 2003, IWR predicts. See IWR.
