Nordic foresters dump Swan ecolabel
The Nordic council of ministers has written to forest owners' associations in the region protesting at their recent collective decision to drop use of the Nordic Swan ecolabel for printing paper products. Norwegian government sources told ENDS Europe DAILY today that the industry had decided it prefers environmental management systems based on the EU's EMAS or the international ISO 14001 standard "because these are systems under which they can set standards themselves, while the Swan scheme has tougher criteria and costs money".
