Germany pledges renewables research funds

The German government has allocated euros 30m over the next two years to support 20 research projects in renewable energy sources, the environment ministry announced yesterday. Offshore wind, solar thermal and geothermal generation, biomass and biogas technology will all receive funding. By 2030, the government expects wind production capacity to reach 30,000 megawatts. News of the funding round was welcomed by the European wind energy association, which has been lobbying all EU governments to increase offshore wind research spending (EED 12/12/01).
