EU extends criteria for detergent ecolabels
Environmental criteria for two EU ecolabels for detergents are being extended to the end of 2003. For both laundry and dishwasher detergents, existing 1999 criteria were due to expire in June. Their extension has been made necessary by delays in agreeing revised standards, according to the European Commission, which said the old criteria were being prolonged to enable firms to continue to use them. In fact only three laundry detergent manufacturers and one maker of detergents for dishwashers have been awarded these ecolabels.
