Deadline set for French PCB inventories

The French environment ministry has given the country's regional authorities until 25 April to submit comprehensive inventories of equipment containing polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and related PCTs. The announcement marks progressive implementation of a PCB reporting framework outlined last year (EED 23/02/01). Once regional inventories have been completed, a national inventory and decontamination plan will be drawn up. France missed a 1999 EU deadline for production of national inventories and plans, as required under the 1996 PCB and PCT directive. See press release and directive text.
