New German limits on incineration emissions
The German government has issued new draft rules on emissions from waste incineration, including from coincineration plants where waste is burned as fuel in a production process. This will affect especially the cement and power industries, which both rely heavily on co-incineration. The ordinance also sets rules on the collection and storage of waste, and of the remnants from incinerated waste. Consultation with industry will start on 9 July. The law is intended to bring Germany into line with the EU's latest waste incineration directive, passed in 2000 (EED 14/07/00). See press release.
