Aluminium can recycling struggles upwards
Aluminium can recycling in western Europe rose by two percentage points to 45% in 2001, according to the European aluminium association (EAA), a similar rise to the previous year (EED 13/07/01). However, as in 2000 aluminium can consumption continued to grow much faster than the tonnages recycled, up 11% in 2001. The highest recycling rate was achieved by Switzerland (91%), and the lowest by Spain (20%). Ireland achieved the biggest year-on-year increase in recycling - up 11 percentage points to 26%.
