Danish environment holding its own
Despite economic growth of about 20% over the past 10 years, pressures on the environment, notably emissions to the atmosphere from energy production and discharge of nutrients from industry and households, have not increased at a corresponding rate, according to this year's state of the environment report by the National environmental research institute (DMU). Contamination of groundwater is still an increasing problem, however, and intensive agriculture continues to affect the countryside, particularly open habitat types such as heaths, meadows and dry grasslands.
