EU to prosecute ill-informing states
The European Commission is to start infringement proceedings against Spain, France and Italy for failing to provide information about possible breaches of EU environment law. Spain did not respond to Commission investigations into urban wastewater treatment, a waste facility and an urban development plan. France has not supplied information on pollution and flood control works possibly infringing the birds directive, and on a chemical factory. Italy's information shortfall relates to a water transfer project potentially breaching habitat rules, and a claim that no environmental impact assessment was carried out on a road project. See press release.
