Four new EU green laws rubber-stamped

The European parliament's last plenary session of the year has rubber-stamped conciliation agreements with EU governments finalising four new EU environmental directives. Meeting in Strasbourg this week, MEPs approved the twin laws on waste electrical and electronic equipment recycling, and restrictions on hazardous substances (WEEE and RoHS) (EED 24/10/02). They also backed deals on access to environmental information (EED 07/11/02) and restrictions on two brominated flame retardants (EED 10/12/02). The council of ministers has also approved the four directives over the last two weeks. See documents passed by the parliament this week here.
