EU energy tax deal must wait again
EU finance ministers met in Brussels yesterday for the first time this year, with an EU energy taxation framework left on the table from last year (EED 12/12/02). Again, however, the dossier fell victim to extended talks on other issues and has been postponed until the next council. Meanwhile, at the same meeting, the ministers formally opened conciliation talks on directives to reduce pollution from pleasure boats (EED 26/09/02) and on restrictions on CMRs (EED 02/10/02). They also approved further talks to create a European pollutant register (EED 02/12/02). See Ecofin council conclusions.
