Another dramatic rise for EU wind power
The amount of wind power capacity installed in the EU grew by 34% over 2002, bringing the total installed to 23,056 megawatts (MW), the European wind energy association (Ewea) reported today. Germany accounted for 55% of the installed capacity, reaching 12,001 MW - enough to supply 4.7% of national electricity needs. Spain increased its capacity by 45% to 4,830 MW. Ewea called for additional political backing for wind power "beyond Germany, Spain and Denmark, which account for 89% of the 2002 market". See press release.
