Petrol machinery pollution curbs in force
A new EU directive extending EU air pollution limits on diesel-engined off-road machines to petrol-engined types became law yesterday when it was published in the bloc's official journal. Member states must now transpose directive 2002/88 by 11 August 2004, when the first in a series of emission limits affecting different engine types will also take effect. By the same date, the European Commission is required to issue a report, possibly accompanied by legislative proposals, on reducing particulate emissions from affected machines. The rules were finalised last October (EED 21/10/02). See directive.
