EU energy tax deal blocked again
EU finance ministers have postponed yet again final negotiations to create an energy taxation framework for the bloc. According to reports from yesterday's Ecofin council in Brussels, Italy has added a demand for lighter diesel taxation rules, claiming its hauliers need compensation for difficulties crossing transalpine transport routes. Previously, a draft accord had been held up by France, which also wants a better deal on diesel for its hauliers, and Germany, which wants concessions on electricity used in horticulture (EED 22/01/03).
