Governments confirm EU green laws

EU farm ministers yesterday formally approved first reading positions on the traceability of genetically modified (GM) organisms and on GM food and feed, several member states voting against. Final texts were issued earlier this month (EED 11/03/03). The council also formally adopted a regulation prohibiting the use of organotin anti-fouling treatments on ships (EED 20/02/03). Meanwhile, a common position on prohibition of carcinogenic, mutagenic or reprotoxic (CMR) chemicals was published in the EU's official journal today.
