New environment minister for Portugal

Amílcar Theias was named Portuguese environment minister on Saturday as part of a reshuffle coinciding with the first anniversary of Portugal's centre-right government. His predecessor, Isaltino Morais, resigned following the disclosure of financial irregularities. The new minister has been drafted in from a post at the European Commission. He is an economist with no known environmental policy experience. Junior environment minister, Jose Eduardo Martins, was also displaced, so far without a replacement.
