German waste incineration rules approved

Germany's government has approved stricter emission limits on waste incineration affecting particularly coincineration where waste is used as fuel. Having already been considered by the upper parliamentary house, which made minor amendments, the ordinance now only requires final approval from the lower parliamentary house and is expected to take effect this summer. It will transpose the EU's 2000 waste incineration directive and was first issued in draft last summer (EED 26/06/02). The key change it will introduce in Germany is an equalisation of emission limits on coincineration and incineration plants. See press release.
