France "to gain most from GM crops"
France stands to gain most among EU countries from the introduction of genetically modified agriculture, according to a new study released by industry lobby group EuropaBio. Its authors claim to have carried out the first assessment of the potential impact of GM cultivation in Europe. They say gene-crops could improve farm income by over €1bn, with more than a quarter of this going to French farmers, while yields could increase by 7.8bn kilograms, allowing an area of land the size of Luxembourg to be taken out of cultivation.
