Delay over car efficiency rules punished
Italy has become the second EU member state to be condemned by the European court of justice for failing to require presentation of consumer information on new cars' fuel economy and carbon dioxide emissions by January 2001. A similar judgement against France was issued in June (EED 25/06/03). Italy has still to comply with the requirement, while France did so about a year before its condemnation (EED 27/03/02). The European Commission has threatened several other countries with court action over the same issue (EED 02/08/01). See judgement in case C-22/02.
