Swedish retailers pledge environmental action

Swedish environment minister Lena Sommestad has signed what she describes as "a unique agreement" with a dozen retail firms and several local and regional authorities committing them to eco-friendly practices in the sector. The signatories will be expected to address the environmental implications of the transport, origin and quality of goods as priorities and to develop policies and technological applications with a view to "shaping a sustainable retail trade", the ministry said in a statement. The deal follows a project that involved almost four years of "dialogue". See press release.
