Ireland to champion EU waste recycling strategy

Ireland will "play a lead role" in coordinating development of an EU waste recycling and prevention strategy during its presidency of the union, Irish junior environment minister Pat the Cope Gallagher told a meeting in the European parliament on Wednesday. The European Commission is due to issue the strategy in September having recently completed a public consultation on initial proposals made last year (EED 17/12/03). The parliament is currently formulating its own position. See press release.
