EU funding boost for Baltic marine research
The European Commission is to pump over €3m into a programme for joint planning of Baltic Sea environmental and related research projects, it announced on Tuesday. The Bonus project will "substantially improve the effectiveness of environmental and sustainable development policies for the entire Baltic," the EU executive said. Hitherto the nine countries bordering the Baltic have never had joint planning of research, it added. The Bonus programme is meant to address this gap by creating a forum for oversight of national or international research programmes. See press release.
