UK chemicals database announced
Britain's Chemical industries association (CIA) plans to develop a database of chemicals marketed in the UK, as part of its forthcoming sustainable development strategy and in preparation for imminent new EU rules under the Reach programme. Decisions on which chemicals and how much information should be included in the database have yet to be taken, a CIA spokesperson told ENDS Europe DAILY. Cooperation with sister bodies in other EU countries is likely, as others have expressed an interest in developing similar databases. Early estimates are that the British project may be completed by end-2004. See press release.
