EU states urged to lift waste brokers' burden

European recycling industries association Bir has urged EU governments to remove a "notifier hierarchy" from a draft revision of the bloc's waste shipments regulation. From 2006 this will "seriously restrict" the activities of waste brokers, traders and dealers in arranging exports to industrialising and EU accession countries, Bir says. The clause "slipped through" the European parliament last year, it regrets (EED 19/11/03). EU governments are now considering their position on the regulation in the council of ministers.
