EU wind power growth slows in 2003

EU wind power capacity grew 23% to 28,400 megawatts in 2003, according to the European wind energy association (Ewea), capable of producing 60 terawatt hours of electricity, or 2.4% of EU demand. However, percentage growth was well down on the 34% recorded in 2002 (EED 07/02/03), as was the number of megawatts of capacity added in 2003. Ewea warned that the EU's target of producing 22% of electricity from renewables of all kinds by 2010 will be put at risk unless faster wind power growth is resumed. See press release.
