EU sets out new cohesion fund blueprint
The European Commission has published a "new political blueprint" for the development of EU cohesion policy after the accession of ten new member states. The blueprint is outlined in the third EU economic and social cohesion report. "Environment and risk prevention" would be one of three key themes addressed. The bulk of a proposed €336bn cohesion fund would still be available only to countries with a national income below 90% of the EU average and would be spent mainly on transport and environmental infrastructure projects. See press release and report.
