Swedish sustainability strategy renewed

"Environment-driven growth and welfare", public health, integrated social policies and an emphasis on the role of children and young people in "an ageing society" are identified as priorities in Sweden's latest sustainable development strategy published on Thursday. Describing sustainable development as "an all-embracing goal [that must be] incorporated in all political areas", environment minister Lena Sommestad said in a statement she was particularly concerned that the younger generation be prepared "to cope with the challenges ahead". The initiative builds on a strategy published in 2002 (EED 22/03/02). See press release and report.
