German freedom of information law tabled

Germany's cabinet has approved a draft law widening the public's right to official environmental information. The measure will transpose an EU directive on public access to environmental information passed last year, which in turn implements part of the 1998 UN Århus convention on public participation in green affairs (EED 17/02/03). The official deadline for EU states to transpose the directive does not fall until 14 February next year. See environment ministry press release.
