Sweden urged to clarify its nuclear policy

The International energy agency (IEA) has called on Sweden to address uncertainty caused by its on-again, off-again policy of phasing out nuclear power. In a review of Swedish energy policy, the Paris-based agency said the government should provide clarity over the cost, security, and greenhouse gas emission consequences. The review warns that more measures will be needed to achieve the government's policy of stabilising transport greenhouse emissions. It calls for close monitoring of the country's renewable energy certificate system, which it says could easily produce "excessive" prices. See press release.
